“Be Strong, Be courageous.” “Be ambitious.” 이런 말이 젊은이들에게 주어지는 말들입니다. 다가오는 시대는 분명 지난 세대가 갔던 것보다 더 발전된, 그리고, 다른 삶을 살아야 되기 때문에, 젊은이의 도전 정신은 언제나 배양되어야 합니다.
There are words like “Be ambitious.” There is a proverbial phrase in the Bible, too: “Be strong and courageous.” (Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:6-7). These words are given to young people. It is quite right that the adventurous mind should be brewed in the young because they should live in the better and more developed ages than this age.
사실, 바벨에서 생긴 사람들의 모습과 말들은 젊은이들이 추구하고자 하는 도전정신을 많이 보여줍니다.
In fact, the young people in the city of Babel has some traits for this adventurous generation in the words and actions of the biblical records.
노 아 홍수이후에 사람들은 동쪽으로 움직입니다. 그리고, Plain을 찾습니다. (창11:2) 평원이라는 것은 산지와는 달리 여러 사람들이 효율적으로 서로 왕래할 수 있는 공간을 제공합니다. 그 뿐만 아니라, 유목민처럼 돌아다닐 필요없이, 농경을 할 수 있는 최적의 환경을 제공해줍니다. 농경을 한다는 것은 그 자리에 계속 정착하면서, 안정적으로 발전할 수 있는 자리를 만들어주는 것입니다.
After the Flood, people moved toward East and looked for plains (Genesis 11:2). The plains provide very significant elements for the human habitats: they provide spaces for people’s free communications, traffics and trades; they provides the optimized environment for agriculture so that they do not wander around for looking for foods or feeding their animals; they make people settle in and establish larger family systems; they provide the optimized environment for people to share the living technology and knowledges including history and languages so that people can compete and establish very stable infrastructure. So, living in the plain means that living in cities in our terms. People can live with stability.
안정적인 발전의 기반을 만드는 것을 정말 중요합니다. 사람들이 도시에 모이는 이유 또한 같은 이유입니다. 안정적으로 발전할 수 있기 위해서는 사람들은 모여서, 서로 왕래하면서, 서로 공유하고, 서로 경쟁하며, infrastructure를 만들어야 합니다. 현대 사회의 발전의 가장 큰 동력은 모두 도시에서 시작됩니다. 게다가, 인터넷의 발전으로 인해, 네트워크 형성을 위해서는, 도시에서의 삶이 무엇보다 중요합니다. 어떤 사람들은 인터넷 때문에, 이제는 시골 구석에 있어도 온 세상과 통할 수 있기 때문에, 도시 발전이 사라질 것이라고 합니다. 하지만, 그럴까요? 그렇지 않습니다. 공업시대보다 현대의 정보시대에 도시로 유입되는 인구들이 훨씬 더 많아졌습니다. 심지어 미국의 경우는 도시공동화현상(city-hollow)로 생긴 슬럼가들이 인터넷과 정보기술의 발전으로 인해서 다시 gentrization으로 바뀌어간다고 말하고 있습니다. 제가 살고 있는 미국 동부 지역의 도시도 마찬가지입니다. 뉴욕의 슬럼가들이 점점 유대인들에 의해 밀려나고 있습니다. 그 이유는 맨하탄 남주 지역에 있었던 회사들이 점점 공간이 모자라서 다시 예전에 버렸던 지역으로 번져가기 때문입니다. 이것은 제가 있는 필라델피아도 마찬가지입니다. 필라델피아의 중심가는 점점 확장되면서, 예전에 흑인 빈민가들이 점점 좁아지게 되어가고 있습니다. 비싼 부자들은 예전에는 도시 밖에 살았는데, 이제는 다시 도시 중심으로 이사가고 있습니다.
Establishing stable infrastructure is very important for human living. Think this way: why are you live in the city which has electricity, traffic system and security system unlike the country side. The fast development of humanity begins the life of city. Moreover, the information age (this is what we are calling this age, you know) requires the life in the city because internet needs city infrastructure that has dense networks. Some argue that the development of internet will make us separate due to less necessity for physical communication and trade in our daily life. But, no! This perspective turns into false idea. The statistics tells us that the influx into the cities throughout the whole world are increasing more and more. The city-hollow phenomenon is decreasing in big cities that has internet infrastructure, which the sociologist expected it to increase. This phenomenon can be seen in our neighbor city, New York, too. Slums are getting pushed out from the center of New York city due to expansion of business buildings. The similar picture can be observed in my neighbor city, Philadelphia, too. The center city of Philadelphia is expanding and the resident areas for the poor (mostly consisted of African Americans and immigrants from poor countries) are being pushed and considering moving to other cities due to lack of moving destinations in Philadelphia. The rich, who had moved to the suburban areas around 30~40 years ago, are moving into the center city more and more due to the convenient infrastructure. And, the price for rent in the center-city is high-rocketing now. I assume that it is the same truth in New York.
그렇다면, 바벨에서 거주하는 사람들은 분명 도시 문명을 형성하는 사람들이었습니다. 진정한 문명의 발전을 가져오는 사람들이었습니다. 그것에 대한 성경의 증거가 있습니다. 그것이 바로 건축술입니다. 3절에 보면, 그들은 건축술의 발전을 가져옵니다. “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” (창11:3). 예전부터 해오던 방식이 아닌, 튼튼하고 견고한 성을 만들기 시작합니다 (3).
Okay. Then, the people in Babel is the city-makers and civilization makers. They are historic people, they bring the development of humanity. There is a strong biblical evidence. In verse 3, they achieve the architectual development: “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” (Gen. 11:3). This is totally different way of structuring their city than their old type. Look the picture above. Their architecture system of ziggurat form is very advanced. They did not only expand their city limit but also raise their development to vertical way, too. Their making tower is not only for their security but also their spirituality.
또한, 그들은 수평적으로만 발전하길 원치 않고, 수직적으로도 발견하길 원합니다. 그들은 타워를 만듭니다. “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” (4) 그 이유가 무엇일까요? 첫번째 이유는 도시의 명성입니다. 도시의 명성이 필요한 이유가 무엇일까요? 그것은 두번째 이유와 관련되어 있습니다. 두번째 이유이면서 명성을 가져야 하는 이유는 “흩어짐을 면하는 것”입니다. 그들은 본능적으로 흩어진다는 것은 자신의 힘이 약해진다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 벤자민 프랭클린의 Join, or Die. 이라는 것이지요. 살아남기 위해서는 서로 뭉쳐야 했습니다. 그리고, 세번째 이유로 타워를 통해서, 다른 적들의 공격을 쉽게 파악하고 볼 수 있었습니다. 그리고, 농경지역의 모니터링, 기상 관측 등의 여러가지를 할 수 있는 것이지요.
“Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” (4) Why do they want to grow horizontally and vertically? We can assume severals: (1) First is for the name of city. The fame of city is directly related to their security; (2) By establishing fame, they connects it to their security for their city name. it is just like the name, United States of America. The pride of the city stems from their technological development and guarantees the better life for the citizens. For the people of Babel, the scariest thing in terms of security is scattering of people. If they scatter, there is no name, no security, but death. The people of Babel knew instantly that their scattering means their lack of security. it is like Ben. Franklin’s motto, “Join, or Die” in the Independence War; (3) the tower provides so many advantages to citizens – it could be watch tower in terms of watch over their enemies; it could monitor the agricultural fields and weather; as well as, it is the high place in religion (it is the highest place to ‘touch’ heavens).
이러한 그들의 발전 목표지점은 “heavens”까지 였습니다. 이 영역은 바로 하나님의 지혜가 닿는 지역입니다. 하나님의 섭리가 다스리는 지역이지요. 하나님의 지혜를 얻고자 했습니다. 불확실성이 다스리는 지역에서 이들의 struggle은 위험하지만 이해할 수 있는 도전정신이기도 합니다. 이러한 모습은 작금의 젊은이들의 도전과 다르지 않습니다. 모든 젊은이들의 꿈은 하늘을 찌를듯 높습니다. 그리고, 그들의 젊음을 자기들의 멋있는 아이디어로 도전하여 공격합니다. 그리고, 그 위험에서 산화되어 죽는 것을 무서워하지 않습니다. 어떤 이들은 무서워하기도 하지만 말입니다.
The people of Babel actually set their goal of the tower project: Reaching to Heavens. The heavens is the place to touch the wisdom of God; to touch the providence (plan) of God. They imagined the freedom from God’s control by elevating themselves to the realm of God’s kingdom. The life of ground is the realm of unpredictability: you do not know when the flood will come, when drought will come, when and how enemy will invade. But, in Heavens, you are safe. Who does not want to go there? But, reaching to the top should require your upmost adventurous spirit. This is only what the young generation can try. Most young people has dreams and their own ideas which is really hight. They are not afraid of falling down in their attempt because they have ‘young energy,’ even though some are still afraid of doing it.
하 지만, 하나님께서는 그들의 도전 정신은 꺾어 버립니다. 과연 이들의 도전정신이 하나님이 보시기에 악해서 그런가요? 창세기 6장과 같은 것일까요? 이러한 도시의 발전은 하나님이 싫어하시는 것까요? 아닙니다. 하나님께서도 인간들이 생육하고 번성하기를 원하십니다. 그리고, 땅에 충만하기를 원하십니다. 창1:27의 그 명령의 이미지는 분명 인간들이 도시에서 bustling거리는 모습과 일치합니다. 이러한 그림은 예루살렘 도시에서 하나님의 백성들이 하나님께 예배하기 위해서 모인 유월절 같은 날의 이미지와 비슷합니다. Well, Well, Well… God breaks this ‘precious’ spirit of young Babel people. Is God so bad not to grant their spirit? Does God think that their actions are just like what people in Genesis 6 did? Does God hate the development of city? No, not at all. Let’s make a few things right: God does not dislike city. On the contrary, God is pro city. God’s proposition toward human prosperity is always positive. Think about Genesis 1:28. When God made us in His image, He commanded us to prevail and be fruitable so that we would be prosperous in a region that God would bless. Imagine, is it possible that human beings cover the whole earth with our population? No. The commandment of cultural mandate (Genesis 1:28) is designed for the people who will cultivate city life. Imagine, the paradise Eden: isn’t this the image of city which is abundant of foods, beautiful landscape with river system and the centralized city administration design – the covenant with God is located in the center of city of Eden. Imagine the city of New Jerusalem: this is the real city that God is making for us. When you read the passages about New Heaven in the book of Revelation, you will encounter the several passages like “the clouds of people” who are worshipping to the lamb of God, Jesus Christ. This image is similar to the image of New Year Day at Times Square. In fact, in the days of Jesus, the people were bustling like that in the city of Jersuralem. So, long story short, God does not blame Babel people’s ‘constructing city.’ 하나님께서 이런 도시와 타워를 보시고는 몇가지를 지적하십니다. 몇가지가 재미있습니다. 첫째는 그들이 오직 신경쓰는 것이 하나의 언어와 하나의 민족뿐이라는 것을 지적하십니다: “this is only the beginning of what they will do” (6). 또한, 그들이 하는 어떠한 것도 불가능한 것이 없다는 것을 지적하십니다: “nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.” (6).
Then, what is problem with the city of Bebel? Look God’s pointing. In Genesis 11:6, what people of Babel cares is only ‘one language and one people’. Also, because of this, they have confidence that “nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.” (verse 6). What does it mean?
그것이 무슨 뜻인가요?
첫째, 그들이 만드는 도시와 타워를 하나님이 싫어하시는 것이 아닙니다. 아까 말씀드렸듯이 그들이 만드는 모든 도시와 타워는 하나님이 원하시는 생육하고 번성하기를 원하시는 것과 관계 있습니다. 하지만, 문제는 ‘오직 그들의 관심’입니다. 그들의 오직 하나의 관심은 뭉치는 것 뿐입니다. 이것이 문제입니다. 왜 문제일까요? 그들은 하나님이 만드신 땅에 다 흩어져서, 하나님의 도시를 만드는 것과는 전혀 무관한, 자신들만의 도시를 만드는 것만 신경쓰고 있습니다. 이것이 문제의 핵심입니다.
First, making sure the premise, God dos not hate their settling and constructing city and tower. What they do is related to God’s commandment of cultural mandate. Rather God’s concern is on ‘their intention’. What do they do? they intend to gather together. This is problem. They do not care spreading out to the whole earth and constructing God’s cities. But, they only care constructing their ‘own’ invincible city sytstem.
다 시 창1:28을 살펴보겠습니다: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (창1:28)
이 성경구절은 분명히, 우리가 reproduce하는 것과 상관있습니다. 자손의 번성과 함께, 지구를 덮어야 하는 것이 들어가 있습니다. 온 땅의 동식물들을 다스려야 하는 것이 분명 들어가 있습니다. 이것은 우리에게 준 특권이자 사명입니다. 그런데, 바벨에 있던 사람들은 그러한 것을 신경쓰지 않습니다. 오직 한 도시에만 신경을 씁니다.
Genesis 1:28 is closely related to our reproduction and prevailing the whole earth. This intends for God’s ruling to his creation througout His people. So, we are suppose to rule His creation according to His will, and which is our previllege and mission. However, the people of Babel do not care. They focuse on their only one city.
하나님이 주신 새로운 현장이 있음에도 불구하고, 자신이 생각하는 것만을 고집하는 청년들의 편협한 마음을 지적하는 말씀이기도 합니다. 도전정신과 함께, 넓고 넓은 하나님의 마음을 알아야 합니다. 우리의 전도운동은 바로 그런 이유때문에 시작되었습니다. 지금 밖의 현장은 99% 불신앙으로 덮혀 있는데, 오직 교회에서 티격태격 싸우며, 자리를 찾는 우리의 모습을 안타까워하면서, 웨슬레처럼, 우리의 교구는 전세계이다라고 하고, 나온 것이 우리의 전도운동이며, 도전정신입니다.
We have lessen from here. We see the typical problem of a young spirit: sometimes, young spirits overlook a new field which God has prepared for him/her by focusing only they are thinking of. Young should had the broad mindset for your future as well as your spirit. Our evangelism movement begins with this mindset. The churches were covered with conflicts within churches and claiming their positions for their own sakes. The voice for God’s saving heart was vivid. Our shout for evangelism were refused, and we were casted out from the fair field. What did then was seeking God’s new field for His plan: the world outside of churches are covered with unbelief; the field is waiting for the gospel of Christ; our ministerial field is not in church but in the field and the world. This is our movement spirit and our adventurous mind.
Do you have a certain problem in your path? Do you have a blockage for your future? Seek God’s preparation; Seek His new field for you in the concentrated prayer.
둘째이면서 좀 더 나아가서 과거에 집착하는 도전정신은 버려야 합니다. 바벨의 사람들이 가지고 있던 도전정신의 한 단면은 현재 청년들이 도전정신과 비슷합니다. 그들은 과거에 얾매여 있습니다. 과거의 상처가 있습니다. 과거의 배웠던 생각의 굴레에 여전히 있습니다. 이것을 벗어나야 합니다. 노아 이후의 세대들은 거대한 홍수에 대한 위협을 잘 알고 있습니다. 다시 말하면, 거대한 자연의 도전앞에서 인간들이 서로 뭉치고 살아야 살아남는 것을 잘 알고 있었기에, 이러한 거대한 타워가 있는 도시를 만들려했을 것입니다. 다시 말하면, 나름대로의 상처가 있는 세대였습니다. 이전 세대에 대한 상처가 있는 사람들이지요.
Second, the young should abandon the obsession of past scars which is expressed the adventurous spirit to recover from it. The people of Babel were still stuck to their past scar: the great Flood. They have learned the great threat of flood. They wanted to get over from the threat. So, they gathered together by bonding together before the challenge of nature. They built a huge tower to rescue from the unexpected natural disaster. However, they did not go forward. They were stuck there. Their development stopped there. They missed very important factor: God promised not to punish human beings with flood (Genesis 9:1-3). That promise is sanctioned not only to Noah and his family but also to the next generations like us.
하지만, 하나님께서는 노아와 그 이후 세대에게 똑같이 명령하셨습니다. And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. (창9:1-3).
그리고, 물로 절대로 명하지 않을 것을 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고, 무지개를 그 증표로 주셨습니다.
And, rainbow is the sign of the covenant. He will never perish us with water.
현 대의 청년들은 도전정신과 함께, 두려움도 가지고 있습니다. 과거에 있었던 고통을 마주치고 싶지 않아 합니다. 혹시 과어에 경제적으로 어려웠다면, 경제적으로 휩쓸리지 않기 위해서, 불철주야로 노력합니다. 혹시 가정문제가 있었던 사람들은 아름다운 가정을 위해 수많은 연구를 하고 공부를 합니다.
하지만, 그러한 문제가 있음에도 불구하고, 그와 비슷한 문제가 닥쳐오면, 청년들은 자신들의 연구에도 불구하고 극복하지 못한 점 때문에, 좌절하고 맙니다.
그래서, 이것을 이길 수 있는 문제에 집착하다가, 청년의 시기를 훌쩍 넘겨버리고, 아무 것도 하지 못했다는 심리적 좌절감과 불안감으로 청년 시대를 마치고 맙니다.
Just like that, modern young people also have similar fear with their young spirit We do not want to encounter pains that we had met in our past: We do not wanted be swayed by problems of money, family or physical status. We study hard in order to escape from that. However, such problems do not leave us easily. They haunt us more often. If we are overwhelmed by that problem, we are just frustrated because of the feeling of failure. Even though we try to get out of them again, if the problem occurs again, we are often obsessed with the attempt to recover and spend all our young days. What we will see will be just frustration, then.
하 나님께서는 구원을 우리에게 주셨습니다. 우리는 결코 망하지 않는 하나님의 사람이 되었습니다. 우리의 삶은 전도와 세계복음화를 위해서 사는 사람이 되었습니다. 그것을 위해서 도전하는 자들에게 하나님은 결코 헛되지 않는 삶을 주셨습니다.
이것을 잊어버려서는 안 됩니다.
상처에 집착해서는 안 됩니다.
Young people, God provided us the salvation, the salvation from the fear of death and threat of failure. We are not going to be perished by the frequent problems in our daily life. We are the sailors who go across the wildest waves and storms by the guidance of ‘the King of the Storm.’ We are destined to live for evangelism and world evangelization, not for recovering our problems. God provided the unfailing life plan to those jump to the God’s plan. Do not forget this. You are supposed to be obsessed by your past.
This is lesson from Babel. God’s cultural mandate should not stop in Babel!!! This why God should scatter them.
세 째, 가장 큰 문제는 바로, nothing is impossible for them이라는 것에 있습니다. 이것이 가장 근본문제입니다. 어떤 분들은 이것은 하나님께 대한 도전이라고 봅니다. 저도 그렇게 생각합니다. 비슷한 문구가 르네상스 시대와 합리주의 시대를 지나서, secularized된 세상에서 너무 많이 반복됩니다. 인간의 이성과 합리적인 사상으로 하나님의 자리에 도전하려고 합니다. 인간에게는 더 이상 불가능한 것이 없어 보입니다.
Lastly, the big problem stands in the mind of Babel people, which is “nothing is impossible for them.” Scholars believes that it is challenge to God. I also think just like that. The human autonomy forgets God’s gracious provisions and tries to take over God’s ruling for them. This idea and phrase was not unique. After Renaissance and the age of Rationalism, such words are repeated countless in the secularized world. They cry that there is nothing for human beings any more, even God cannot stop them.
Look, what Voltaire said. 볼테르는 이렇게 말했습니다: “Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most absurd and bloody religion that has ever infected the world.”
Look, what Nietzsche said. 니체는 이렇게 말했지요: “What distinguishes us [scientists] from the pious and the believers is not the quality but the quantity of belief and piety; we are contented with less. But if the former should challenge us: then be contented and appear to be contented! – then we might easily reply: ‘We are, indeed, not among the least contented. You, however, if your belief makes you blessed then appear to be blessed! Your faces have always been more injurious to your belief than our objections have! If these glad tidings of your Bible were written on your faces, you would not need to insist so obstinately on the authority of that book… As things are, however, all your apologies for Christianity have their roots in your lack of Christianity; with your defence plea you inscribe your own bill of indictment.; Christianity came into existence in order to lighten the heart; but now it has first to burden the heart so as afterwards to be able to lighten it. Consequently it shall perish. (Nietzsche’s Human, all too Human)
This is exactly the idea the old serpent wanted to put into human mind. 이것은 바로 하나님을 떠난 사람들의 이야기이며, 바로 뱀이 하나님을 떠나게 해서, 자신이 인간의 주인이 되려 했던 그 의도가 들어간 말과 다름이 없습니다.
5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:5)
그 럼, 그런 인간의 도전에 대해서, 하나님은 두려워하신 걸까요? 그래서, 바벨을 없애신 것일까요? 그렇지 않습니다. 불가능이 없다는 것은 인간의 추측이라고 하나님이 말하심을 알아야 합니다. 하나님이 보시기에는 인간은 한없이 불가능한 존재입니다. 하나님의 은혜와 보호하심이 없으면, 완전히 몰살당할 존재들입니다. 하나님이 지금도 베푸시는 은혜의 섭리를 모르는 말이지요.
Then, Does God fear from such words? Is this why God scattered them? No. Not at all. When God said that there is nothing impossible for them, it indicates that God acknowledges that human beings are crying like that in the tower of Babel. We should know that we human beings are nothing before Him. Without his grace and protection, we are easily vulnerable to natural disasters, including flood. Such words ignore the basic truth, God still provides His grace in His providence.
시 편 2편에는 이러한 모습을 아주 적나라하게 보여주고 있습니다. 하나님께서는 이러한 도전에 대해서 한마디로 비웃으시고 그들을 다스릴 새로운 나라를 건축하고 계십니다. 그것이 바로 시온이며, 그것이 바로 예수 그리스도를 통한 하나님의 나라입니다. 그 나라는 어느 누구도 쉽게 접근할 수 없으며, 그 나라의 지혜에 아무도 도달할 수 없습니다. 그 지혜의 나라에 들어오는 자들은 멸망당하지 않는 지혜를 얻습니다. 그 놀라운 멸망당하지 않는 나라속에 우리가 백성으로 선택되어 있으며, 우리는 그 나라의 지배를 받고 있고, 앞으로 그 나라에 들어가 영원히 살게 될 것입니다.
Psalm 2 shows such phenomenon so well. The kings and rulers are crying that they should break the bondage from God. But, God just laugh to them. Even though they think they won, God already set a new king on all the rulers, who is Jesus Christ, the True King. Rather the new king is constructing a new kingdom on those who believe in Him. That is Zion, the kingdom of God. That kingdom is open for them and providing its wisdom and power toward who are subject to it. Those who come into that kingdom gets the imperishable wisdom from the kingdom.
롬 16:25-28에 보면, 이 지혜의 나라에 들어간 사람에게는 “견고케 된다”라고 했습니다. 절대로 무너지지 않게 됩니다. The same words are written in Romans 16:25-28. Those who come into this kingdom of wisdom will stand firm. they will never crumble.
마지막으로, 그렇다면, 하나님이 주신 해결책은 무엇인가요?
Then, what is the solution that God had provided to the people of Babel?
그 것은 하나님의 섭리대로 인간들이 모두 흩어져서 정복할 수 있게 하시기 위해서, 하나님은 언어를 혼란하게 하셨습니다. 언어의 혼란은 분명 저주입니다. 하지만, 동시에 언어의 다양성은 인간의 통찰력에 대한 감탄을 자아내게 합니다. 왜냐하면, 이 세상의 어느 한 언어도, 다른 모든 민족의 언어를 통합할 수 있는 단어나 표현의 체계를 가지고 있지 않기 때문입니다. 한 단어에 대한 여러가지 표현은 여러 지역에서 생긴 문화와 지질학적인 특징, 역사가 들어가 있는 단어들입니다.
사실 흩어졌기 때문에, 지금 흩어진 우리 후손들은 놀라운 다양성을 배울 수 있게 되었습니다. 그리고, 그것은 창1:28에 대한 성취이기도 합니다.
It is God who gave us a solution: It is not us who could sovle those messy situation. God provided the plurality of languages in order that all people can spread out and conquer the God-given earth. The confusion of languages is surely a sign of curse. However, the diversity of languages actually gives us a amazement about the human potentiality and insight: there is no language that commumate all expressions of every language; every language has its own unique way of expression in a certain case, and which other language cannot imagine to think of. Korean language can describe many sounds and emotional mimics in its expression. English language has a simple and straight forward way of expression in its speech. Such diversity comes from their unique traditional, historical and geological traits in the development of languages. Such diversity begins from the accident of Babel tower. I think that it is God’s curse, but also is God’s correction for the descendents of Noah.
하 지만, 그럼에도 불구하고, 그들이 아무렇게 흩어지게 한 것이 아닙니다. 하나님은 그들이 하나님을 떠나서 흩어졌다는 것을 분명히 하셨습니다. 하나님을 떠났기 때문에, 그들의 흩어짐은 “방황”에 가까웠습니다. 하지만, 하나님을 만난 임마누엘의 사람들은 흩어짐이 바로 “새로운 정복”이었습니다. 그것이 바로 아브라함의 이야기입니다. 그리고 그것이 바로 예수님이 12제자를 통해서 전 세계를 복음화하시는 비전들이었습니다. 전 세계에 흩어진 하나님의 교회는 바로 하나님의 도시였습니다. 생육하고 번성하고 땅을 정복하는 그 자리였습니다. 그리고, 하나님의 나라가 바로 새로운 정복의 현장이었습니다. 그 때는 모든 백성들이 모이게 됩니다. 그 전까지는 계속 “너희는 가서 모든 족속을 제자로 삼아라”라는 정복의 일들이 계속될 것입니다.
The real deal in Babel was this: God scattered them in order that they can obey the cultural mandate. They did not listen God’s covenant, which was sanctioned with their ancestor Noah. So, God did not allow them to be left without His loving care. Since they separated themselves from God and His covenant, their scatteredness was almost ‘wandering’. If you do not have any knowldge why God turns your way in other direction, you are also in wandering. However, if you are aware of His reason to do that, you will know How to make up. For the people of covenant, it is a new opportunity for conquering the earth which is promised to them. There is a person who turned such wandering into a new way of conquering: that is the story of Abraham.
The same pattern occurs in the time of New Testament. The Jerusalem church was persecuted and had to scatter away after Stephen’s martyrdom. However, the people of evangelists, who followed the Great Commandment of Christ (Matthew 28:18) and were guided by the Holy Spirit, made such accident into a new opportunity: the opportunity for World Evangelization. Through the 12 disciples and 300 saints, they spreaded out every city and proclaimed the gospel of Christ. Churchs was born in every city. Such churches were the cities of God, just like the picture which was given to Noah and his descendents. Every people gathered to the God of immanuel, Jesus Christ. They realized their scatteredness is God’s charging of Acts 1:8 (you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.)
청 년은 이런 새로운 하나님의 해결책에 부름을 받았습니다. 그리고, 당신의 삶을 개척하시기를 원하시고 하나님이 지금 축복하기를 원하십니다. 청년들이 무릎을 꿇으십시요. 하나님의 축복을 받고, 왕같은 제사장으로 현장에 나가서, 생육하고 번성하여 땅을 정복하는 제자의 삶을 사십시요.
You, the Young! You are called to this new God’s plan. God wants you to plant your life, culture it and be blessed by His vision. Bring your knees to Him. Receive this blessing and go out to your field as a kingly priest. Live your live as prospering generation with the spirit. Be a disciple of Christ, not of this corrupt world.
청년들이여, 당신의 도전은 임마누엘로 인한 현장으로 파고 듦인가요? 아니면, 그냥 바람 따라 시대조류 따라 흩어지는 것인가요? 하나님을 섬기는 임마누엘의 사람이 되시길 바랍니다. 진정한 정복을 누리시길 바랍니다.
